Getting help with OPC UA Explorer

Frequently Asked Questions

I can't connect to my OPC UA server.

Check that the endpoint URL is correct (format: opc.tcp://hostname:port). Ensure your Mac can reach the server on the network. If using security mode Sign or SignAndEncrypt, verify that the server's certificate is in your trusted list. Try connecting with security mode None first to rule out certificate issues.

The server certificate is not trusted.

When you first connect to an OPC UA server with security enabled, the server presents its certificate. Review the certificate details and click "Trust" to add it to your trusted list. Subsequent connections will proceed automatically. If the certificate has changed, you'll be prompted to review it again.

My license key doesn't work.

Make sure you enter the full key including dashes (format: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX). Check that you have an internet connection during first activation — the app needs to validate the key once. After activation, the app works offline. If you still have trouble, contact support below.

How do I browse the server namespace?

Connect to your OPC UA server. Once connected, the namespace browser panel shows the root node and its children. Click the expand arrow on any node to see its child nodes. Click a node to view its attributes in the detail panel.

How do I create a subscription?

After connecting, go to the Subscriptions panel. Click "Create Subscription" and set the publishing interval. Then add monitored items by selecting variable nodes from the namespace browser. The app will show real-time value changes as notifications arrive.

I bought from the Mac App Store. Do I need a license key?

No. The Mac App Store version is automatically licensed through your Apple ID. No license key needed. The paywall only appears in the direct-download (DMG) version.

I bought via Polar.sh but want to switch to the Mac App Store.

Purchases through Polar.sh and the Mac App Store are separate. We cannot transfer purchases between platforms. Both versions are identical in features.

The app crashes or freezes.

Make sure you're running macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. If the app freezes during an OPC UA operation, try disconnecting and reconnecting. If the issue persists, contact support with your macOS version, the app version, and what you were doing when it happened.
